We aim to be open and transparent in our reporting and take part in a range of non-financial reporting initiatives
Global Reporting Initiative
We use the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2006 G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for our reporting. We have completed the Financial Services Sector Supplement which is G3 Guidelines plus sector-specific information. Our assessment is that the content and quality of this report meet GRI G3 Application Level A. In 2011, we've taken the extra step of having our GRI submission third-party checked.
UN Global Compact
We participate in the UN Global Compact (UNGC), a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally-accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Our values and sustainability principles reflect the UNGC.

Non-financial reporting
Reporting on non-financial performance across customers, people, community investment and environment can be found in the specific sections of Sustainability in practice. Full details of these measures (i.e. scope, definitions and how we’ve decided what to report) are included in our Basis of reporting.
Socially responsible investment
We have been included in the FTSE4Good index for the past four years, and have also commissioned our own external benchmarking based on the criteria used for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. We participate annually in the Carbon Disclosure Project. See Benchmarking and awards.
