Slovakia

In Slovakia, we support the 'SOS Training' initiative which enables young adults who were raised in foster homes to develop their life and social skills so that they can look after themselves and integrate into local communities. We have been supporting this initiative for three years.

Volunteers for Tatras

In 2005 a devastating storm hit The High Tatras, Slovakia's largest mountain range, causing untold damage to this unspoilt and treasured environment.  A third of the trees were completely cut down in this natural forest disaster.   In partnership with Slovak Scouting, we supported a 12-month voluntary clean-up and replanting programme which also provided employees with the opportunity to volunteer and join 900 people from 14 different countries in this unique project.

Development of life skills

The Children of Slovakia Foundation has developed a training programme to help children develop valuable life skills.  We are supporting the two-to-three year initiative which will help young people cope effectively with stressful situations, communicate and solve issues without feeling under pressure, become responsible and accountable, manage their own finances and overcome social barriers and differences.

The programme will also spread the life skills development methodology across the Slovak education system by training adults who work with children and young people.

More than 500 people from nine communities nationwide will take part.  The programme will be followed by a series of seminars on new trends in life skill development and the financial literacy of children.
